Researchers trial Citramel cystic fibrosis treatment

Breathe Easy chief executive Andrea Miller says “long-awaited” safety trials are under way for Citramel, a treatment designed to weaken mucus on the lungs of people with cystic fibrosis.

Miller says researchers at the Christchurch Clinical Studies Trust are working “largely in isolation” on the trial, which seeks to test the drug’s safety, safe dosage range and possible side effects.

Miller, whose daughter has cystic fibrosis, announced in May Breathe Easy’s plans to trial the drug on five healthy patients for its safety trial and about 25 cystic fibrosis patients for an “indicative efficacy trial”.
