Snowball Effect is looking for a new Growth Director to join our energetic and growing team.

If you’re the right sort of person, you’ll have a sales mentality and will enjoy working with a diverse range of companies and investors, and want to be part of a high performing company in a rapidly evolving market.

We will consider applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds. You may have launched your own business, been an essential part of growing a business, or even raised capital for your own business. A background in the capital markets is not a requirement for candidates that can demonstrate relevant experience, proactivity and the ability to get things done.

Snowball Effect is an online marketplace that aims to simplify investor access to a range of investment opportunities. We do this by facilitating offers of securities through public offers, private offers, and wholesale investor offers. Since launching six years ago, we have raised more than $100m of capital for Kiwi businesses.

Our vision is to make a significant impact on improving the New Zealand capital markets. We see an opportunity to provide investors with easy access to financial products, while also providing tools for them to manage their portfolio and engage directly with the companies and sectors of interest. The Role

The successful Growth Director candidate will help drive the development of Snowball Effect’s company pipeline, and present Snowball Effect as the go-to solution for high-quality growth companies seeking to raise capital.

You will ideally have 8+ years of commercial or corporate experience, however, we are open to considering candidates that have a unique skill set that they consider highly relevant to the role. For example, you may have founded your own business, raised capital yourself, or been a key team member in a successful growth business. You will need the skills and expertise to identify suitable opportunities and see these opportunities through to execution of a successful capital raise. This role will be an exciting one as the path forward is largely unexplored, and you will help drive critical business results.

We welcome and are looking for someone that brings a personable and different perspective to our team. It’s important that Snowball Effect continues to have a distinctive voice and retains a personality that distinguishes it from the rest of the capital markets. We want investors and companies to be attracted to a far more exciting, personable, and intimate experience as a result. You’ll ideally have an existing network or a clear ability to quickly develop strong relationships within the New Zealand capital markets with entrepreneurs, advisors, and investors.

Key Accountabilities

You will lead the identification and end to end engagement with high-quality growth companies who are seeking capital. This will mean:

  • Developing relationships with service providers, company founders, CEO’s, CFO’s, and the wider capital markets community.
  • Being highly proactive in seeking out opportunities to speak with companies and their service providers to ensure that Snowball Effect is front of mind when they are raising capital.
  • Continually looking for new opportunities to get in front of high-quality companies and investors with the Snowball Effect suite of products.
  • Management of the end to end capital raising process, coordinating capital raise timelines and ensuring they’re met.
  • Working closely with companies as they prepare their offer material to ensure offers are well presented and to gain an in-depth understanding of each business before presenting them to investors.
  • Developing relationships with investors who are suitable for Snowball Effect capital raises, and identifying suitable investors for particular opportunities.
  • Lead team members in the management of capital raising activities, including the development of investment material.
  • Work alongside the CEO and Board to contribute to annual strategic planning, and will have responsibility for the implementation of strategic initiatives.
  • Working with our network to ‘test’ offers before going to wider investor groups. Ensuring that written material resonates, and key terms/valuations are sensible and fair.
  • Working closely with marketing and PR teams across capital raises.

Involvement with other day to day tasks that are critical to the continued success of Snowball Effect, including:

  • New product/feature development.
  • Investor relations/customer support.
  • Leading shareholder communications between companies and investors. We provide a package to companies to support this.
  • Adherence to external and internal compliance regime, ensuring best in class standards are maintained at all times.

New Opportunities

You will also have the opportunity to play a significant part in the development of other Snowball Effect products. These include things such as:

  • Orchestra - a stakeholder management tool allowing companies and investors to manage share registries, company compliance, stakeholder engagement and ESOP schemes.
  • Share trading technology designed specifically for private companies which aims to address issues relating to compliance, liquidity and broker support.
  • New financial products that sit alongside high-risk equity within an investor’s portfolio such as debt, hybrid debt and equity products, and other financial instruments across a range of asset classes.

There will of course be others that emerge in time.

This is a critical leadership position within Snowball Effect and will play a key role in developing an important part of New Zealand’s capital markets.
